How To Pass Unilorin CBT Exams, Calculate CGPA Scores

This write-up is mainly for the newly admitted students and the starlites (returning students) of the Universities of Ilorin, Ilorin.

As UNILORIN fresher, don’t you think it would be nice for you to make outstanding grades in your first year? Look, you can score 40 in test and 60 in CBT exams respectively without failing.

I overheard many 100level students of the institution complaining bitterly saying that the examination is too hard for them. There is no magic when it comes to examinations in the higher institutions. It is garbage in, garbage out, unless you are planning to cheat which is against the rules.

How should I prepare for UNILORIN Test and Examinations?

There are no new things or ways to do that. As an alma mater of the school, the following procedures has been drafted for you to follow if you really what to make it out successfully from the better by far university:

Reading and Studying: to succeed in every test and examinations, reading is Paramount. The fact is not really about reading but how do you pass even when you have read enough? I have seen many scholars fail their tests or CBT examinations. What do you think is the cause? The answer is simple ‘ inexperience’ As I speak many students in the Institutions have not been able to graduate as appropriate due to one issue or the other which is mostly carry-over courses or spill over. Aside from reading and studying, to succeed in any examination, these are what you must know before attempting to write the CBT tests or examinations.

2. Time management: You must be able to manage your time effectively, from research, I was able to gather facts that time allocated for each course ranged from 15 – 30 minutes and 8 – 12 minutes for GNS, as you can see, the time is very limited and you need to work very fast, always remember that it is not about you knowing the course, but you being smart with the little you know, don’t be surprised if the person you tutored scored more than you because he/she is very smart in the CBT hall (Being smart here doesn’t mean involving in examination malpractice please, don’t implicate Philomath, what I’m just talking about is that you need to be hyper fast while answering the questions)

3. Play/Catch Fun: all work no play makes Jack a dull boy. Inasmuch as you studying well, you need to create some time to catch fun and play. But don’t over do, remember to manage the time.

4. Relax and Rest: At least have an 8-hour sleep a day to your test day, don’t over read because over reading kills your brain and may lead to amnesia (loss of memory) in the CBT hall.

5. Examination/Test Anxiety or fear: once it is time to write the examination, don’t panic. Or get scared. Relax your mind. If in any circumstance you find yourself panicking, just take a deep breath and release it slowly, then focus. Examination/test anxiety is the fear during a particular examination/test that you are going to fail it. When it’s time to write the test or examinations, try to erase some thinks from your mind. Negative words or slogans commonly referred to as “Face Tanke” which euphemistically means EXPULSION, should be in your mind during the exams. This statement do scare students and thereby create anxiety in them, they will be having different thought in the CBT hall, thoughts like:

  • Have I studied enough?
  • I’m not sure I can pass this exam/test
  • I’m done for
  • I will face tanke if I can’t pass
  • Had I known I would have studied very well, etc.
  • This questions look scary, can I even attempt it?

The symptoms of this examination/test anxiety includes

  • Sweating palms
  • Fast breathing rate
  • Headache
  • Feeling of easing oneself/pressed
  • Feeling of visiting the toilet
  • Shaking hands and legs
  • Hot temperature
  • Body hitching etc.
Once you notice any of these signs in the examination hall, try to control yourself and quickly take a deep breath as earlier instructed in this article because if you don’t take proper care of this, it might waste your time, and may make you to be impatient in the hall and thereby forcing you to make mistakes while answering the questions because you are not calm.
All what you need is to be calm, have confidence in yourself, before starting the exam, clear your mind, forget about facing tanke, aim for 40/40, close your eyes and say to yourself that “I CAN DO THIS”. Be brave! Be courageous! Fight the anxiety!
Also, remember to stay positive.
6. Technophobia: as earlier said most of UNILORIN examinations are usually CBT ( Computer-based Test) if you are a technophobic person you really need to work on yourself by getting familiar with the computer devices such as keyboards and use of mouse. Technophobic person is one who has fears for Computer devices or technology. If you remain technophobic even in the examination or test hall. You are likely not to perform well. So work on that.
Remember your success or failure is in your hands.
Also, be prayerful. Wether you are a Muslim or Christian. Commit all your examinations into God’s hand.
Follow all these tips and you will make it full time. Meanwhile, if you have been making mistakes in your first year or any previous years of your study, don’t give up, don’t be discouraged. There is still hope for you! Just remain FOCUS!!

How To Calculate UNILORIN CGPA

What is CGPA?

CGPA means Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the the average of grade points obtained in all subjects taken by the candidates.

The university recently readopted E into its grading system. To calculate your CGPA, what would be needed is the Credit Units of each course.

You also need your grade points for each of the subjects.

For faster method of calculating be familiar with this scaling in Nigerian Universities: – The mark of 70% and above equals the letter grade of A or 5.00 Grade Points.

The mark of 70% and above equals the letter grade of A or 5.00 Grade Points

At this stage, you would have to calculate Quality Point (QP). To achieve this, multiply the number of Credit Units by your Grade Points for the course.

For instance, if a course has four credit units, and you had the mark of 72% that is synonymous to 5 Grade Points. The Quality Point for this course will be 4 x 5 = 20.

In order to get your Cumulative Grade Point Average, you need to add the Total Quality Points for all semesters to date and divide the sum by the Overall Credit Unit (TCU) for all semesters to date.

For instance, you had 56 Quality Point for 18 Credit Units in your first semester, and then you studied harder and got 67 Quality Point for 20 Credit Units in the second.

Your CGPA will be (56 + 67) / (18 + 20) = 123/38 =3.24

You can now use this method to calculate your CGPA.
